HPN Select chooses Wilmar as exclusive MRO provider

We are writing to inform you that after rigorous review and deliberation, HPN Select has decided to migrate all Maintenance, Repairs, and Operations (MRO) business to Wilmar (The Home Depot) effective February 28, 2019. HPN Select is fully prepared to work with your team to ensure a swift and seamless transition over the next several weeks to the Wilmar program.

Why the Transition to Wilmar?

HD Supply has been the sole exclusive vendor for the MRO category for roughly seven years. On behalf of our members, HPN Select seeks to constantly find the most valuable solutions in an ever-changing housing industry. Thus, HPN Select ran a Request for Proposal (RFP) in 2018 seeking to expand the suppliers that supported our MRO program. At that time, Wilmar was identified as a program that brought greater value to our member base, however, HPN Select was still promoting both the HD Supply and Wilmar programs to our members.

Ultimately, moving forward with Wilmar as an exclusive MRO provider offers the most valuable solution to members of HPN Select. Wilmar recognizes the strategic value of our exclusive partnership and has supplied a very favorable contract proposal with enhanced terms to assist each member with the transition.

What to Expect from HPN Select and Wilmar

Working closely with Wilmar, HPN Select will oversee the hand off of vendor operations from HD Supply. Transition management will include creating and maintaining a solid communication plan with the Wilmar team, the member organization, and HPN Select. Additionally, the transition includes, but is not limited to, service level implementation, attaining set milestones, and completion of all deliverables.

When complications arise, HPN Select will work with Wilmar and the Shareholder to identify where miscommunications or missed steps occurred; moving quickly to identify the source of the complication and taking decisive action to keep the transition on track.

When Will the Transition Take Place?

While strategic planning sessions and contract negotiations started in December 2018, the official timeline for full deployment to Wilmar begins March 1, 2019. HPN Select is currently working behind the scenes planning the transition, and any Wilmar spend that is transferred prior to March 1, 2019 will still be included in the new MRO program.

To promote a speedy transition, Wilmar has agreed to pay each member of HPN Select a 1% rebate during the migration year for all spend that goes through the HPN Select – Wilmar partnership. The 1% rebate will be in effect from March 1, 2019 through February 29, 2020.

How Will the Transition Work?

On Friday February 8th, HPN Select will reach out to HD Supply communicating our decision to allow our contract to expire effective Thursday, February 28, 2019.

HPN Select will execute an amendment to the existing Wilmar contract agreement sometime in February accepting the “deal” points that have been agreed to by the Board of Managers and Shareholders. Through a Board resolution, a decision has been made to start the process of switching from HD Supply to Wilmar effective immediately.

HPN Select is prepared to swiftly transition all HPN Select members to the Wilmar program. Please reach out to either Chris Frederick or me to begin the transition process.

Features and Benefits of the Wilmar (The Home Depot) Program

Distribution

Wilmar, through partnering with The Home Depot, has developed a robust distribution network that is competitive and comparable to HD Supply. Wilmar is actively adding even more distribution centers and Home Depot stores to further enhance their distribution network. Wilmar’s solution offers free delivery on all orders throughout the United States.

Pricing

Wilmar and HPN Select have jointly been reviewing thousands of SKU’s against the current HD Supply program. Discounts average at roughly twice as much as the offering from HD Supply. The Wilmar catalog discounts are tiered based on the size of each customer. Greater discounts are offered for renovations and capital improvement projects.

Renovations

Wilmar has a department dedicated to renovations and capital improvements projects named Renovations Plus. Following a complete understanding of the project, the organization is offered a dedicated Project Manager and there will be dedicated inventory for each individual project to ensure project efficiency.

Over the next several weeks, the HPN Select team will contact each member to ensure a seamless transition to the Wilmar program. Your cooperation and active participation during this time is greatly appreciated to ensure the most efficient transition.

Under the terms of the agreement (“Agreement”), Trapeze will receive cash compensation of $5,500 per month and will not receive any Common Shares or options of Pioneering as compensation. Trapeze does not currently own any securities of Pioneering; however, Trapeze and its clients may acquire a direct interest in the securities of Pioneering. Pioneering and Trapeze are unrelated and unaffiliated entities. The principals of Trapeze areHerb Abramson, Randall Abramson and Adam Abramson. Trapeze is a member of the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada, a participating organization of TSX and a member of TSX-V. The capital and securities required for any trade undertaken by Trapeze as principal will be provided by Trapeze. The Agreement is for an initial term of 180 days, with automatic renewals for a further 180 days unless terminated.

What do new U.S. tariffs on washing machines mean for HPN Select members?

On Tuesday, January 23, 2018, U.S. President Donald Trump signed an executive order levying new import tariffs on washing machines, washing machine parts, and solar panels. The administration announced that for each of the first two years, it will impose a 20% tariff on the first 1.2 million imported large residential washing machines, while there will be a 50% tariff on machines above that number. This will drop to 16% and 40% respectively in the third and following years. There will also be a 50% tariff on washing machine parts.

So what does this mean for HPN Select, and their vendor partner, Whirlpool? Goldman Sachs forecasts an 8% to 20% increase in the price of a new washing machine from international suppliers such as Samsung and LG (LG announced on Wednesday that they will be raising prices on all washing machines by roughly $50).

But for customers of Whirlpool, who manufacture all washing machines in the U.S., there is likely to be minimal to no effect on pricing. HPN Select members should be wary of purchasing appliaces outside of the HPN Select contract with Whirlpool. Other partners such as HD Supply and Wilmar carry appliances made by companies such as Frigidaire, who manufacture their washing machines in Juarez, Mexico, and Electrolux, who do much of their manufacturing in Europe, and as a result may see rising prices.

The one caveat to this is if domestic manufacturers such as Whirlpool and GE source some parts for their machines overseas, there is the possibility that costs for their machines could also slightly rise, just not as dramatically as their overseas competitors. HPN Select is currently working on collecting further information from Whirlpool about any sourcing of overseas parts.

HPN Select is excited to announce to HPN and NeighborWorks America Members and their partners new product offerings for October and product offerings coming soon.  As Members continue to provide direct feedback to the Business Development Directors, Operations team and through the Member Peer Exchange, you can expect purchasing solutions to align closely with the procurement requirements and product specifications in support of your mission.

Pest Control: Rentokil North America is a full service pest control provider with a national footprint supported by their affiliated brands. The services include routine pest control treatment, bed bug heat and chemical treatment and rodent removal. Their pricing is competitive against the industry average. A dedicated sales team provides ongoing support to Members.

Kitchen and Bathroom Kitting: HD Supply and Maintenance USA/Wilmar provides Kitting for the Kitchen and Bath program. Rather than having to order products or materials individually, parts or materials are bundled (Kitted) which gives Members access to aggressive pricing per Kit. The Kit contains most products and materials required for a Member’s kitchen and/or bathroom upgrade/rehab. Each of these suppliers may provide installation services by request of the Member.

Remote Security Services: Elite Interactive Solutions (EIS) is a full service security consulting company. HPN Select Participates in NC Developers Council Discussion

HPN Select’s Procurement Director Christopher Frederick met with leaders of the North Carolina Housing Coalition on June 21st to participate in a facilitated discussion between city housing staff and developers and the opportunities and challenges related to the affordable housing community. The conference, in Greensboro, NC was attended by some of the state’s most influential elected officials from six of the largest cities throughout the state of North Carolina, as well as major developers instrumental in the development of communities.
